Preparation

What happened before we get to the mountain:

February 1999
The Kreissparkasse Meißen as well as the Sparkasse Leipzig will help us financially to get to the mountain. The Sparkasse in Germany is likely the same then the Wellsfargo Bank in the US. The Kreissparkasse Meißen has nice webpages under www.ksk-meissen.de (in German).

Februar 1999
Our special designed postcard is printed. The company Messedruck Leipzig GmbH did it. We are actually impressed about the quality of it.

Februar 1999
We will use solar panels at the mountain to recharge our batteries. We already have the panel for our digital camera and have ordered another one for our laptop.

January 1999
Since January 14th we know for sure, that Clif Bar Inc., based in Berkeley California is a sponsor of our team. They will provide us with every product we need. You'll find information about Clif Bar under www.clifbar.com.

January 1999
The Central German broadcast will together with the DREFA produce a film  about our expedition. A professional Camerateam will accompany us to this. It consists of two cameramen who will independently of us operate at the mountain. At this they'll use our tent chain as well as the equipment and catering for the disposal.

January 1999
We have won a wider sponsor. The hotel Michaelis supports our plan generously.

December 1998
After our arrival in Kathmandu we will do an acclimatization tour. We go by minibus to Dhunche on March 25th. This is a little village 8 hour journey in northerly direction of Kathmandu in the Langtang Himal. We make us on the way to the famous Gosainkund lakes of there, lain in a limit of 4400 m .On the way and on the lakes are many tea-houses and lodgings. In immediate proximity of the lakes there is one mountain of 5000 m which we can climb. We want to spend as much time as possible in so great height. After a week we get off to Dhunche within a day and drive back to Kathmandu on the next day. Our Minibus expects us in Dhunche. The time schedule looks therefore as follows:
1. day Kathmandu-Dhunche
2. - 4.day Trekking Dhunche-Gosainkund
5.-6. Tag Gosainkund
7. day back to Dhunche
8. day back to Kathmandu

December 1998
Prof. Neumann of the institute for applied training science Leipzig has recommended us to make as much long term exercises as we can (minimum 6-8s hours a week). To keep a definite heart frequency is important at this. This should lie only just over this one when we reached the Laktat-2-amount in the above-mentioned institute at the bicycle Ergometrie which we had. Sounds very much scientific and is it also. And jogging and riding a bike is logically now. Prof. Neumann looks after us from beginning and has worked out the exercise plans.

November 1998
The Permit is here! After long waiting we hold the (not really cheap) permission in our hands, which allows us to climb the mountain.permit2.jpg (48933 Byte)
